The U.S. State Department has issued a journey warning in vacationer haven cities alongside Mexico’s Caribbean coast amid clashes between disgruntled taxi drivers and Uber rideshare prospects and drivers.
The warning comes after medallion taxi drivers in Mexico’s Quintana Roo state, house to Cancun and different widespread vacationer areas on the Yucatan Peninsula, have been harassing and attacking drivers and passengers in Uber autos on account of frustrations over the competitors that the ride-share service gives.
Taxi drivers even blocked one of many most important roads resulting in the lodge district within the resort of Cancun Monday. That compelled some vacationers to stroll or catch rides in police pickups to get their flights out, or verify in.
The State Department suggested vacationers that “previous disputes between these providers and native taxi unions have sometimes turned violent, leading to accidents to U.S. residents in some cases.”

Cancun’s mayor has known as on the taxi drivers to indicate restraint.
